At times when the gravity of existence presses us against our domestic environment, we begin to observe its specific details with greater care. A misaligned floor tile in a corner of a wall, or the sense of ease one finds within one’s own space. Kai Thaís reflects on the warmth inherent in the ritual of repetition, of wrapping oneself in a space and fully inhabiting it.

Recubierta
is an exploration of reclamation, a response to the seizure that occurs when the cold, detached nature of the photographic medium captures a space, a memory, or a moment in time. Through intervention, repetition, and artifice, Kai Thaís transforms these fleeting instances into a visceral substance where the gritty and the pristine coexist.

She employs the symbolism of traditional feminine textile work to clothe these spaces, providing them with a new skin and a sense of shelter. In doing so a new creation emerges from what already exists, seeking to grasp its essence while fostering a sense of belonging within something that once felt other.
